Once you have a new or formatted card in the camera, be sure to still format the card using the camera menu. With the low cost of removable storage now, it may be just easier for you to just go ahead and replace the memory card in your camera. If the card doesn't show up on the computer or will not format using the computer, then replace the memory card. This should get the card back into a format that the camera can understand so that you can format the card using the camera menus. Set the file system to FAT32 and format the card. Right click on this new removable disk and click format. If you have a card reader in your computer or an external card reader you should be able to directly connect the card to your computer and then access it by going to Start>my computer>there should be a new removable disk that shows up there under devices with removable storage. Power on the camera and as it's powering on, strike the bottom of the camera on a hard surface (desk, palm of hand, carpet). It only takes one grain of sand to cause this error. Use short bursts of air and do this with the lens facing downwards. Using canned air, blow out the area where the lens and the camera body meet. If the gap is larger in one area than another, then press gently where the gap is the largest and listen for a click. What you are looking for is the tiny gap where the lens and the camera body meet. ![]() Then re-install new or verified fully charged batteries only and try powering it on. Power down the camera, remove the batteries, memory card, and any other accessories that may be removable and let it sit for a few minutes. It only takes one grain of sand in the lens to cause this error. If it meets any resistance during this process it will go into a fault state and this is the error you will get. When you power on the camera it goes through a start up process where it moves the lens through its full range of motion. I'm going to post some steps here for you to try.
